DTF Printing Design Guidelines
For the best results, always use high-resolution images. This is especially important for DTF printing for corporate clothing or custom apparel where branding and logos must be clear and professional. Aim for 300 DPI or higher to avoid pixelation. Different fabrics react differently to heat and pressure.
DTF Printing Process
Direct-to-film (DTF) printing is a two-step process that uses a special film and a heat press to transfer a design onto fabric:
- Print the design: Use a DTF printer to print the design onto a PET film with water-based inks. The design should be inverted and sized correctly for the garment.
- Apply adhesive: While the ink is still wet, apply a thermo-adhesive powder to the film.
- Transfer the design: Use a heat press to transfer the design from the film to the fabric. The film should be heated for 2–5 seconds to flatten it, then pressed onto the fabric for 15–20 seconds at 165°C.
- Peel and flatten: Peel the film off, then use the heat press again to flatten the design.
- DTF printing is cost-effective and can produce high-resolution prints on a variety of fabrics, including cotton, denim, leather, nylon, and polyester. It's often used for small batch printing on apparel like t-shirts, jackets, hoodies, and sportswear, as well as accessories like bags and belts.

Pre-treat the fabric to improve ink adhesion and print longevity.
Don't send too much or too little white ink to the printer. Too much will cause the white to bleed, and too little will make the CMYK and white ink look dull.
